Tokyo Rose
Iva Toguri D'Aquino or as most knew her, 'Tokyo Rose,' one of several who broadcast propaganda for the Japanese. (There were several who spoke on the radio and all were 'glommed' together under the moniker of Tokyo Rose). She had been born in Los Angeles and was visiting Japan when Pearl Harbor was bombed and we entered into War. She was not allowed to travel back to the US and by 1943, to support herself, became involved with the propaganda broadcasts to the So. Pacific by Japan. After the War, she was arrested, tho she was released after a year in prison. She was re-arrested in Sept of '48 however and charged with treason and brought back to the US to stand trial. Her sensational trial that started in 1949, was covered extensively in the news. She was found guilty on one of the treason charges and went to Federal Prison until 1956 when she was paroled. tokyo_rose_p
