Southside of Market Street, 3rd to 4th Street, 190
Market Street was a major shopping district for the City's booming economy, bustling with horse carriages, automobiles and streetcars vying for position. There has been near continuous rail transit service on Market Street since 1860, and by 1937 it had the busiest streetcar activity in the world. The Emporium, a cooperative of private stores founded 1896 by Adolph Feiss, is on the left center of the next block. sf_Market_3rd_4th_p-sep
