"Gas House Cove", Marina District viewing toward the Golden Gate and fort Point, future site of Marina Safeway and Marin Green, Fort Mason off camera to the far right (not seen) ...... P G & E's facility was to the left, with the tank and building right next to it. to the immediate right was the United Railroads North Beach Power House. The metal stack on the URR PH was a rebuild from a much taller all-brick stack. In 1911, URR sold the power house to P G & E. This power plant partially collapsed in 1906. Coal gasification/coke rendering plant. Heat coal to force gasses from it, gas for heat and light, coke for manufacturing. source: San Francisco Images / Bennett Hall Collection
