Between 1866 and 1894 Robert B. Woodward opened his six-acre gardens to the public as an amusement park. It included an extensive museum of foreign zoological and mineral specimens, exotic plant conservatories, an art gallery, a marine aquarium, lakes and fountains, and offered many variety shows.
